About the Professional Ethics Forum

Recognizing that professionals play a fundamental role in leading many aspects of contemporary society, Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE) and The Hastings Center for Bioethics are jointly launching the Professional Ethics Forum. The mission of the Professional Ethics Forum is to provide a platform for well-informed thoughtful discussions about current ethical issues faced by professionals.

  • Essays are written by professionals (e.g., medical professionals, lawyers, journalists, clergy, et.al.).
  • Essays respond to the moment, addressing current challenges.
  • Essays are well-informed and seek to promote ethical debate, not partisan views or personal gain.
  • Essays invite conversations that can occur across professions.
  • The goal is not merely criticism but responses that advance understanding and, where possible, provide prescriptions for action.
  • The writing is accessible to the curious and engaged layperson.
  • Ongoing conversations are encouraged in comments and follow-up essays.
